Oriental poppies (Papaver) are long used by gardeners in a range of landscape situations. Planting poppies is simple and rewarding when their blooms appear. The clumps will become larger each year but will never be invasive. They can be forced indoors with special treatment. Oriental poppies grow well in poor to average soil， however， soggy ground should be avoided as they hate wet feet， the prefer the cooler temperatures of spring and fall， after flowering， allow the poppies to die back during the summer heat， as excess watering will kill them

Best divided and replanted in fall if 1 must move them， winter protection in zones 3 to 6 may be necessary which can be done after a light freeze， with mulch， pine needles or some other loose material
